I want to buy a ticket for the temporary exhibition, but I can’t see that option anywhere.
With an online ticket you can visit both the permanent collection and the temporary exhibition. There is no extra charge.
Why can’t I buy a separate ticket for the temporary exhibition?
A valid entrance ticket lets you visit the entire museum, because we want to give all visitors the opportunity to also view the masterpieces in our permanent collection.
Why do you recommend booking tickets online?
Without an online ticket, we cannot guarantee access. Interest in the museum and the exhibitions exceeds the available capacity of the building. In order to ensure that as many people have the opportunity to enjoy the art in an agreeable atmosphere, it is important that we distribute visitors throughout the day. We do so by using admission tickets with dedicated start times. Additional advantages of this system include there being little to no wait at the entrance and sufficient space for all visitors to enjoy the art at their leisure.
I have a ticket with a starting time but I’m arriving earlier/later: is that allowed?
Anyone who arrives at the indicated starting time is guaranteed entry. If you come at any other time, we cannot guarantee when and if you will be admitted.
Can I change my online ticket(s)?
Up to 48 hours before the date and time of your planned visit, we will be pleased to help you find an alternative time to visit. We will only be able to offer you a new ticket if a different date and time slot is available. NB: please don’t try to rebook for another date yourself, as this may stop other people from being able to visit the museum. Please contact us using the form at the bottom of the page.
I would like to cancel my ticket, what should I do?
Tickets purchased online cannot be refunded. Up to 48 hours before the date and time of your planned visit, we will be pleased to help you find an alternative time to visit. We will only be able to offer you a new ticket if a different date and time slot is available. Please contact us using the form at the bottom of the page.
I have an online ticket and am visiting with someone else, can he/she enter at the same time?
Admission to the museum is only possible with a valid ticket. Check online whether tickets are still available at your chosen time.
Can I book by phone?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to book tickets by telephone. You can reserve tickets easily and quickly on our website.
The same name appears on each ticket: is that a problem?
No, that’s not a problem. The ticket shows the name of the person who placed the order and paid for it. There is a unique bar code on each individual ticket that is scanned on entry.
Do I have to print the ticket?
You can print out your online ticket, but you don’t have to: you can also present your ticket on a mobile device for checking at the museum entrance. If you booked using a discount card, such as a Museumkaart, you must also be able to present it along with your ticket on entry.
Problems with online ticket bookings
I did not receive my ticket, but the money has been debited from my account.
There can be several reasons for this:
- The e-mail with your tickets might have been moved to your spam or junk mail folder. If you use Gmail, messages like this are often placed in a special folder for advertisements or spam.
- There might be a typing error in e.g. the e-mail address. Please contact us using the form at the bottom of the page. We will then correct the mistake and resend the tickets.
- There may be a delay due to server problems. Check your e-mail again later.
I am unable to complete my online booking.
There may be several reasons preventing you from ordering your ticket online. Check your internet connection and refresh the web page. You can also try again using another browser. Sometimes it can help to restart your computer.
I can’t get past the payment page: I’m constantly returned to the same place.
There can be several reasons for this:
- You can only go to the next page in the ordering process if all the details have been filled in correctly. When paying by credit card, make sure that there are no spelling mistakes in the card-holder’s details. Don’t forget to enter your CVC code if you are paying with a credit card. If you’re paying via your bank, the bank details must be correct.
- NB: avoid double payments! Check whether the payment hasn’t actually gone through before trying to pay again.
- Sometimes it helps to use a different browser.
- Is your account balance too low or has your credit card company rejected the payment? Try again, possibly using a different card.
I’m having problems downloading my ticket(s) from the order page.
Following payment, you will receive an e-mail with the tickets as attached PDF files.
